ragarok robotics background
Formed in 2011, Ragnarok Robotics is Mt. Hebron High School’s team focused on the Varsity Sport for the Mind. As proud Mt. Hebron Vikings, and in the spirit of competition, we take our name from Norse mythology, in which the Ragnarok is the name for the last great conflict between the gods and the forces of evil.
Our team achieved early success, winning the “Rookie All-Star Award” at the Chesapeake Regional tournament, which afforded us the privilege of participating in the FIRST World Championship in St. Louis, MO, affectionately known as “The Super Bowl of Smarts.”
Our mission ever since has been to make it back to the World Championship on the strength of our technical skills and competition play. While we didn’t qualify for Championship in 2012 and 2013, we made great progress on learning the techniques and strategies it takes to win.
Now in our fifth season, we are determined to make it all the way to St. Louis by winning our Regional Championship. Learning from the best practices of our amazing peers on other teams, we have deliberately organized our budget and fundraising efforts in a way that will help us ensure that we have the best chance of achieving this goal. Our platinum sponsors Motorola Solutions and Leidos are just as excited about the opportunity ahead of us.
All year long, we are learning the engineering process first hand, collaborating with engineers and other professionals on our mentor team, defining our strategy for the season, recruiting new team members, and training each other on how to build and program great robots.
Now that the 2015 season has been officially kicked off, and the details of the 2015 game, Recycle Rush, have been revealed, nothing will stand in the way of us building our robot, The Hammer of the Gods, as effectively as possible.
We look forward to having your support as we pursue our goal of competing at Championship in St. Louis this spring.
